Talent

Artists tend to get touchy when someone dismisses their hard work with the label “talent” but at some level we all tend to buy in to the notion that some people have it or they don’t whatever “IT” is. What’s worse we use the lack of this thing as an excuse why we never get any better. So what is it? Most often the term “talent” is an attribute used to describe someone who has already displayed some skills. If it exists it’s probably a combination of things that allows someone to spatially organize or measure or maybe something that helps them disengage left brain activity. Whatever, nothing in painting can’t be learned and hard work will trump talent every time. So for the workshop let’s try to suspend this notion and not let it be an excuse in the learning process.
